Had dinner with dad today...
We were eating in chinatown. And as you know, chinatown holds many memories for most of the chinese in singapore. My dad was one of them...so he start talking about his childhood. And the more he shared with me, the more interested i became!
In fact, what kept most of the conversations going was the immense number of questions I was asking him. Somehow, I just enjoy hear my dad talking about his past experience. I guess every son likes listening to his dad's stories haha. There's just this connection that you can sense.
Oldern times were SO MUCH fun! No homework, no mugging, weekends were solely for soccer, practising kung fu etc =) You only study when exams are coming...and as long as you read alot you can pass with flying colours. When you are primary 6, you start working part-time and learn how to make your own business. There's is no greeenwave project or SS documentary or Summative assessments to handle. Things were so carefree. No Facebook, No Internet, No TV...playgrounds were playgrounds, and not Mousehunt or Mafia Wars.
You learn by making mistakes and NOT by studying history. You can eat as much as you want but you NEVER grow fat!!! 3 Bucks then is equivalent to $10 now...You are easily contented with what you have. Friendship is really simple and totally honest. 1 spike shoe is easily shared by 10 people. You don't get booked for play soccer IN YOUR UNIFORM!
After dinner, I went back to the place when I used to pratise wushu...I havent been there for 2 years! Somehow memories all came back, the people you used to see aren't there anymore. And you miss the days you take your sword and start chasing each other and acted like you were the hero of a Kungfu Movie.
Then i saw some kids training (My cousin and some others). They were learning the same "tao" I learnt years ago. And as I watched them do it, I could actually imagine myself being in their position. The pain I suffered, the pants I split, the aches I felt on the following morning...
There was this spear I used to train with, I SAW IT THERE! When I held it, wow...seriously the feeling is extraordinary...the scratches that I made on the spear 2 years ago remained intact...the cloth remained unchanged. The same smelly, moist cloth I felt 2 years ago!
